What is squared text?

Squared text uses special Unicode characters where letters appear inside filled squares, similar to emoji symbols like 🅰 and 🅱. These characters are officially called "Negative Squared Latin Capital Letters" in Unicode and display as white letters on colored square backgrounds.

Originally added to Unicode to represent regional indicator symbols and specific emoji, these squared letters have become popular for creating eye-catching text on social media. The bold, blocky appearance makes text stand out dramatically compared to regular characters.

Tool description

This squared text converter transforms your letters into negative squared Unicode characters. Each letter becomes enclosed in a filled square, creating bold, emoji-style text perfect for headers, emphasis, or decorative purposes. The tool can also convert squared text back to normal letters.

Examples

Input Output
Hello 🅷🅴🅻🅻🅾
SALE 🆂🅰🅻🅴
New 🅽🅴🆆
ABC 🅰🅱🅲

Features

  • Converts all 26 letters to squared equivalents
  • Works with both uppercase and lowercase input
  • Creates bold, attention-grabbing text
  • Bidirectional conversion (squared to normal and back)
  • Output displays as emoji-like characters on most platforms

Use cases

  • Social media headers: Create attention-grabbing titles and announcements
  • Emphasis text: Make important words stand out in posts and messages
  • Decorative usernames: Design unique profile names with a blocky aesthetic

How it works

The converter maps each letter to its corresponding Negative Squared Latin Capital Letter in Unicode. These characters occupy the range U+1F170 to U+1F189. Since Unicode only provides squared versions for capital letters, both uppercase and lowercase input produce the same squared output.

When converting back, the tool maps each squared character to its uppercase letter equivalent, as the original case information is not preserved in the squared format.

Limitations

  • Only letters A-Z are supported (no numbers or punctuation)
  • Case is not preserved—output is always uppercase equivalents
  • Spaces and other characters pass through unchanged
  • Display may vary between platforms and devices
  • Some older systems may not render these characters correctly

Tips

  • Use sparingly for maximum impact—full sentences in squared text can be hard to read
  • Combine with regular text for emphasis: "🅽🅴🆆 product launch today!"
  • Works great for single words or short phrases
  • Test on your target platform to ensure proper display
