What is wide text?
Wide text, also called fullwidth text, uses special Unicode characters that take up twice the horizontal space of normal characters. Originally designed for East Asian typography where Latin characters needed to align with wider CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) characters, fullwidth text has found a second life in internet culture.
This text style became iconic in the vaporwave aesthetic movement of the 2010s, where the stretched, spaced-out appearance evoked feelings of nostalgia and digital surrealism. The distinctive aesthetic look has since become a popular way to add visual impact to social media posts, usernames, and creative writing.
Tool description
This wide text converter transforms your normal text into fullwidth Unicode characters. Every letter, number, and common symbol gets converted to its wider counterpart, creating that distinctive spaced-out aesthetic look. The tool works bidirectionally, so you can also convert wide text back to normal.

Use cases
- Vaporwave aesthetics: Create that iconic aesthetic look for art projects and social media

How it works
The converter maps standard ASCII characters (code points 0x21-0x7E) to their fullwidth equivalents in the Unicode range 0xFF01-0xFF5E. Regular spaces become ideographic spaces (U+3000) which are also full width. This one-to-one mapping ensures consistent conversion in both directions.
Supported characters
The tool converts:
- All 26 letters (both cases): A-Z, a-z → A-Z, a-z
- All 10 digits: 0-9 → 0-9
- Common punctuation: ! " # $ % & ' ( ) * + , - . / : ; < = > ? @
- Brackets and symbols: [ \ ] ^ _ ` { | } ~
- Space → Ideographic space ( )
